Finally, von D Day Book Contest Winner

Looong ago, this blog had a contest celebrating Kat von D Day on last March. A 24 hours make up giveaway was won but after all that was happening I did not announce the winner of a Tattoo Chronicles copy.


Today Ophelie B. from France received her "OMG I WON" email and I hope she's jumping and yelling of happiness :)
The winner has been chosen by a random number generator among subscribers of the blog.

After hospital. 23rd March -23rd May

Sunday, 22nd May. 3:00 pm.

I'm writting this words at my mom's kitchen. She's having a well deserved nap now.
Tomorrow I'll be in the city and I'll post the first blog in 2 months.

Two months ago I answered a call from the hospital. I was browsing something on the net and having a funny conversation with my roomates. When the doctor hang up, I immediately call my family, wrote a short email to my friends, wrote the last post and left home.You never know when life is gonna surprise you.

My mom feels better now. It's been a long hard path of suffering and pain. She still needs some time, though. That puts me in a situation where I need to be next to her and live with her for a while. Actually, I don't know how long but if things keep this way, she'll be able to live alone in a couple of months.

At first, I couldn't think in anything else than her recovery. Doctors weren't positive at all. But here we are now, step by step, struggling.

I really want to thank you for your kind messages and your love. I've read all of them. My apologies for not answering on Twitter. Your love is the reason why I finally decided not to give up on this blog. I can't promise an often update but you can be sure that the end of this blog hasn't arrived yet. :)

I'm gonna need some help to know what happened during this time :)

Everything happens for a reason, they say. I haven't figured out yet.

Porque sólo hay una cosa que importa

Después de un largo período centrada en promocionar el Kat von D Day y buscar un trabajo "remunerado" vuelven al blog los post exclusivos sobre Kat.

Eso significa notícias sobre ella, fotografías de estudio y de la calle, canciones del día en el canal de Youtube e intentar hacerlo lo mejor posible encontrando los outfits más parecidos.

Ya me avisaron: Tumblr es adictivo y literalmente caí en los brazos del infierno, jaja. Siendo una persona con una vena artística importante pero que me dedico principalmente a organizar las cosas de otros, pasé horas mirando y buscando fotos inspiradoras.. y pasé horas perdiendo el tiempo.

El blog definitivo de Kat von D, Cómo parecerse a Kat von D, es éste. El que ahora mismo estás leyendo y que nació bajo el propósito de ofrecer contenidos novedosos. El blog tiene muchos "hijos" o como quieras llamarlo en varias redes sociales para que sea algo más conocido. Dedicarle tiempo a las redes sociales tiene un efecto negativo que estoy intentado solucionar: escribir menos aquí, lugar con el que me comprometí hace tiempo a darle mis energías.

El título anterior, blog definitivo, es algo pretencioso, porque no soy la mejor ni este es el más conocido de todas las webs que existen sobre Kat. Sin embargo, tengo un compromiso con los lectores y espero que los que se unan, se queden por un tiempo.

Hace poco me di cuenta de que 2010 fue el año en que hubo más notícias de Kat que nunca. Ni siquiera cuando en 2007 alcanzó la fama con L.A.ink.
Así, uno de mis deseos se hizo realidad el año pasado: que Kat fuese más conocida.
Por otra parte,  uno de mis obejtivos con este blog era transmitir una imagen de ella más positiva, creativa.. y mostrarle al mundo que es una excelente artista.

La guerra de las críticas empezó de nuevo con la ola de noticias de este año que hemos dejado, pues la mayoría eran sandeces. Quiero recordar que después de todo, debería ser juzgada por su arte y aquí si que no hay duda de que es una de las mejores.

After a long period focused on promoting Kat von D Day and looking for a payed job, Kat von D exclusive posts are coming back to the blog.

That means news of her, studio and paparazzi pictures, songs of the day on Youtube channel and trying my best to find Kat von D outfits.

I had been warned that Tumblr could cause addiction and I fell in the arms of Hell there, haha. Being artisitcally inclined but working in organizing other people stuff, I spend shit loads of time watching photographs of inspiring stuff and wasted my time.

The Ultimate Blog of Kat von D, Howtolook like KvD,  is this one. The one that you are reading right now and that was born with the purpose of giving fresh and new contents. It has many children or whatever you wanna call it in social media sites to help to be known. Spending time there has a effect that I'm trying to solve: writting less in the site that once I decided I'd gave all my energies.

The previous title is a bit pretentious because I am not the best one neither the best known that started a site about Kat but I am committed to a bunch of readers and hoping that new ones choose to stay for a while.

Not long ago, I've realized that 2010 produced much more news about Kat von D that never ever before. Not even when she became so successful with L.A. ink back in 2007.
So, one of my wishes for Kat being more noticed and known became real last year. 
Beside, one of my goals with this blog was to bring a postive/ creative/ inspiring / ... image of her and show to the world that most of all, she's a brilliant artist.

The so-called criticism battle started again since most of the news were simply bullshit. I want to remember that after all, she must be judged for her artistry and there is no doubt that is is one of the best at.

Facebook issues regarding the blog

Recently I've realized that somebody else has stolen my blog email and made a Facebook account.
I already dennouced this situation but just in case you ever try to find me on Facebook, this is the one and the only: Kat von D Day

Do bloggers need to made accounts in each and every social media pages because spammers has nothing else to do?

I've embarked on this venture that Tumblr is recently. I hope it helps to promote Kat von D Day.
I'm flattered by some messages from fans that had already heard about this blog before! It's so stimulating getting to know your opinions and receiving so much support. It definitively makes me really want to keep doing more and more with this blog for you everyday.

Above all, Tumblr is a visual place, so I'm not going to bore you posting the same stuff that you can find here in this blog. I'm gonna use my Tumblog to make this one known by people that never read it before.
I'm not asking you to join Tumblr now if you haven't yet, - unless it's your will to join, of course :)
As I already explained, it's not about overexposing you to the same things all the time but to meet new fans.

The only think I may ask is that you're totally free to share links about Kat von D Day on whatever social media you use: Facebook, Orkut, MySpace, etc. I'd really appreciate any help to let fans know about it!

He comenzado una pequeña aventura en Tumblr para que me ayude a promocionar el Kat von D Day. Me ha hecho mucha ilusión recibir mensajes de chicas que ya conocían el blog! Es todo un aliciente conocer vuestras opiniones y recibir vuestro apoyo hace que mis ganas de seguir con el blog aumenten día a día.

Tumblr es muy muy visual así que no pretendo cansaros volviendo a colgar todo lo que hay en este blog sino
que lo utilizaré como plataforma para dar a conocer este sitio.
No os pido que os hagáis una cuenta en Tumblr si no teneis un perfil ya. Como digo, no se trata de sobreexponeros a las mismas cosas todo el rato sino conocer a más seguidores por otras vias .

Kat von D Day ocurrió de repente.
Creo que es una de esas cosas que no tienes que dejar escapar. Es una gran oportunidad para pasárnoslo bien y demostrarle a Kat que tiene los mejores fans.
Hace semanas entre todos dibujamos este día y escribí un post dejando la puerta abierta para ideas nuevas.

Una camiseta para mostrarle al mundo qué estamos celebrando hoy.

He pensado que podemos hacerlo todavía más fácil si os dejo la libertad de hacer lo que os de la gana. Me explico: sería genial que todos lleváramos la misma camiseta pero ¿no sería todavía mejor que cada uno pasara un buen rato diseñando con sus manos la suya?

Utilizad cualquier cosa para decorar vuestra propia camiseta. Una camiseta básica de tirantes, de manga corta de algodón que no uséis mucho (todos tenemos alguna por el armario) y si no, hay cientos de ellas por 5€ en H&M, Zara, etc. Hacedlo con sprays, retuladores, imprimid la foto que más os guste…  ¡DISFRUTAD mientras lo hacéis!

Hacer esta prenda puede llevaros desde una semana, una hora o cinco minutos  y ¡TODAS serán fantásticas!

Por la parte delantera o trasera de la camiseta, eso ya es cosa vuestra 

Hay un mes por delante para que penséis cómo será. 

Si hay alguien que en lugar de una camiseta prefiere agarrar una sábana vieja y hacer una bandera con letras enormes para colgarla en su balcón o para vestirse con ella, perfecto! viva la creatividad, supongo.

KatvonDDay: Show it to the world

Kat von D Day just happened all of a sudden.

I think it's one of those things you can't not let it go. It is a great opportunity to enjoy ourselves and show Kat that she has the best fans.
Few weeks ago, among all of us, we made a picture of this day and I end up publishing a post leaving the door open for new ideas.

One T-shirt to show to the world what we are celebrating today. 

Lately I've been thinking it's gonna be it even easier if I gave you total freedoom and you do whatever you want. I mean, it would be great that we were all  wearing the same Tshirt but, would not it be even better than each one of you have a great time designing with your own hands?

Use anything to decorate your own T-shirt. Take a basic cotton tank tees or short sleeves that you do not use much (we all have some of them hidden insiden our closets) or buy one of the hundreds  H&M, Zara, etc. for 5 bugs. Sprays, markers, print the photo that you like the most ... Enjoy the process!

It can take you from one week, one hour or five minutes to be done, and ALL of them will be fantastic!

Instead if someone prefers to hold an old sheet and write big letters on as a flag and hang  it on his balcony or to eveb wear it, perfect! - long life to creativity, I guess.

Tattoo Chronicles has a winner

So yesteday I sent an email to the winner of the contest and here is her answer.
I went to the post office today so in a couple of week she'll receive her book at home.

I had a great time preparing tiny papers, writting your names on them, chosing the perfect bowl,  inviting a friend of mine to pic one of them and celebrating the joy of the winner, a girl from France.

I don't know if you guys will believe me but who is having more fun with all of this it's me, hi hi ^^
Because it's amazing to see you guys on Twitter supporting and RTing to help me, specially Ashlee, Paul, Natali and Bianca.
To the ones who showed up their enthusiasm with it, I just can say thank you Katrina, Cheryl, Paula, Ana Carolina, and so many others I am missing!

As I already said in other ocasions I would love to have a chance to give another book. So, don't lose your hopes, maybe next time!

This contest was born because it's difficult for some people to buy the book online (shipping rates), they can't find it in their countries, etc. I'm pleased to help and make it possible for someone :)
Now, new challenges wait for us: Kat von D Day is waiting for us!

It’s Moday and people usually hates it. How have you started the week?

Fist of all, a short reminder: Tattoo Chronicles contest ends in Two day.

I’ve received quite a lot of emails, so you’re doing it alright, but as a “last call”, all you need to do is to send an email to howtolook@hotmail.com writing name, country and what subscription you have chosen (RSS, email, Twitter, Youtube or Googlefriend)

Remainder done, now let me tell you: I’ve been working “behind” the blog these days. Thinking about how to improve it, checking content, planning and that’s why I didn’t update this weekend. I neeed an offline moment to sit down for writing and scheduling myself. I’ve done the half of it!

Besides that, I’m so excited with your enthusiasm for KatvonD Day. If you have new ideas, don’t keep them for too long. February is the month for setting up so, say it now! On the other hand, I’m glad of  taking a picture of myself wearing our all-toghether we- made- it T-shirt.

Finally, about myself, I had some job interviews in other cities nearby and although I want they hire me, if they do it means I’m gonna have less hours for researching, and publishing. Because of it, I’ve programmed a calendar that reminds me how much you are loving this blog.

KatvonDDay: Are you on board?

I am certain that you are gonna love the first post of  2011 and when you read the last word, your brain will come up with brilliant ideas. There is no better beginning than this.

Yesterday I received an alert about when Heartagram Day will be held this year and all of a sudden, I started asking in Twitter why  don’t we set our Kat von D day too.
For the moment, there is something we all agree: 8th March will be the perfect day for the celebration.  This is the Internationa Women Day too!

I am writing this post to involve all the fans inviting them to be part of it and finally come to an agreement with how they would like to celebrate the Kat von D Day. The main idea is to have fun that day and manage to let her know how much people respect, admire and love her.

KatvonDDay: What are we going to do?

This 2011 is gonna be a special year for Kat von D fans.

What if we all together plan a Kat von D Day impossible to forget?

This post follows the introduction where I told you about where the idea to set a day came from. At the bottom there is a link about how to give your opinions and share your thoughts.

After many of you were delighted with the idea of having a day, from Brazil it came a: “we could make a T-shirt, take pictures of all of us and editing a video with those images. Upload it on Youtube!”

I just love this simple idea and I think many of you too. In this short list I try to sum up how we could organize it in case you like the action explained above.

• A picture of Kat with a designed logo for the #katvondday will be posted on the blog for people to print their t-shirt at copy shops.
• Every person must hold something that helps to identify their nationality, i.e., flag, remarcable place from your city, paint your colours on your face, etc.
• Take a picture wearing the t-shirt
• Send your picture here in order to make a cool video featuring every fan.
• If you like, you can send Kat via Twitter too but don’t forget sending to the blog!
• Wear this t-shirt all day long 

Possible cons:

• Printing T-shirts. ¿are you really willing to take action and spend some Money for this day or you rather think of something different?

In the future, I’d love to provide or give your those shirt for myself. I’d be pleased to send them to your homes but this is not going to happen this year :) But hey! wait til the next year, maybe then I will!

This 2011 is gonna be a special year for Kat von D fans.

What if we all together plan a Kat von D Day impossible to forget?

Before I was telling you how everything started and what is the main idea that came to our minds chit chatting on Twitter. 

Then, what I mainly try with this “event” is having fun .

I am asking that every fan of Kat von D having a brilliant idea is not afraid of telling and sharing with everybody! If some of you like the original idea and wants to support it, perfect! Let us know with a big “ I Like” it! If you like it but you think that you are able to get it better, go ahead! What will YOU do?

Now you are maybe wondering: How can I share my idea? How can I take part of it?

All those people willing to contribute, you can write on comment box and also on Twitter: hashtag #katvondday.

These links explain clearly how to comment in Blogger and what a hastag is. I think it can be useful for those who aren’t familiar with. I prefer you think it’s a useless info instead of losing people for the party :)

Finally, I lay on your hands a suggestion: share it. Link wherever you want (Facebook, …), create a link in your blog (versus copy-paste), print and hang it on your school board or you local bar, tell you neighbors, I don’t know :)

Kat has thousands of fans everywhere and I don’t think we are gonna reach so many but I would like to reach and meet the ones who want to have a good time celebrating the Kat von D day.

Día KatvonD. ¿Te apuntas?

Estoy convencida que el primer post del año 2011 os va a gustar y cuando acabéis de leerlo vuestro cerebro empezará a poner en marcha magníficas ideas. No podría haber mejor comienzo que este.

Ayer recibí una alerta sobre cuando va a celebrase el Heartagram Day este año. Y de repente, se me ocurrió preguntar por Twitter porqué no organizábamos un día para Kat von D también.
Parece que por ahora todos coincidimos en que el 8 de marzo sería el día más apropiado para celebrarlo. Esta fecha coincide con el Día Internacional de la Mujer.

Escribo este post con la intención de que todos los fans puedan participar y ponerse de acuerdo en cómo les gustaría celebrar el Día de KatvonD. La idea principal es que éste sea un día para que todos nos lo pasemos bien y logremos hacerle saber cuanta gente la respeta, admira y quiere. 

A continuación explico con más detalle:

• cuál es la acción que más forma ha ido tomando en las conversaciones de Twitter
• cómo podéis dar vuestras opiniones.

Día Kat von D: ¿Qué hacemos?

Este 2011 va a ser un año especial para los fans de Kat von D. 

¿Qué tal si organizamos entre todos un Día de Kat von D que no pueda olvidar?

Este post sigue a la introducción en la que os explicaba de donde venía la idea de organizar un día. Al final hay un enlace sobre como participar/dar vuestras opiniones.

Después de que muchos estuviérias encantados con la idea, desde Brasil llegó un: "podríamos hacer una camiseta de Kat y hacernos una foto cada uno para finalmente editar un video con todas esas imágenes que se colgaría en Youtube".

Esta sencilla idea me encanta y creo que os gustará también. En esta lista os resumo más o menos como podría organizarse en caso de que os guste la acción que se plantea en principio.

• La foto de Kat con el logo diseñado para el #katvondday se colgará en el blog para que cada persona lleve el archivo a una copistería para que le impriman la camiseta.
• Cada persona debe llevar algo consigo algo que identifique su nacionalidad, por ejemplo, una bandera, hacerse la foto en un lugar representativo de su ciudad, pintarse los colores en la cara, etc.
• Ponerse la camiseta y hacerse una foto
• Enviarnos la foto para poder montar un video con todas las fotografías recibidas.
• El video se hará llegar a Kat von D a través de Youtube
• Si cada persona también quiere enviarle su foto a Kat von D a través de Twitter, no hay problema pero sobretodo ¡no olvidéis enviarla aquí!
• ¡Llevar la camiseta todo el día!!

Los posibles contras de esta acción son

• Imprimir la camiseta. ¿estaríais realmente dispuestos a moveros y gastar algo de dinero en esta acción o preferís hacerlo de otro modo?

Actualización: Nunca ha sido tan fácil. Diseña tu propia camiseta.

En el futuro me encantaría poder proporcionaros yo misma estas camisetas. Con mucho gusto las enviaría a vuestras casas pero no va a ser posible este año :) Pero esperad al año que viene, puede que entonces sí sea posible :)

Volviendo al 2011, espero impaciente todos vuestros comentarios.

Día KatvonD: Cómo participar.

Este 2011 va a ser un año especial para los fans de Kat von D. 

¿Qué tal si organizamos entre todos un Día de Kat von D que no pueda olvidar?

Antes os explicaba cómo ha empezado todo y cuál es la idea que se nos ha ocurrido entre unos cuantos amigos en Twitter.

Pues bien, lo que intento principalmente es que nos lo pasemos bien este día.
Se busca que todo fan de Kat von D que piense que tiene una gran idea ¡no tenga miedo a contarla y compartirla con todos!
Si a alguno de vosotros le gusta la idea original que ha surgido estos días y la apoya ¡perfecto, hazlo saber con un gran "Me gusta"! Si os gusta pero creéis que sois capaces de mejorarla, adelánte ¿qué haríais?

Ahora os preguntaréis: ¿Cómo puedo dar mis ideas? ¿Cómo participo?

Todas aquellas personas que queráis aportar ideas podéis hacerlo a través de comentarios en el blog y también en Twitter con el hashtag #katvondday.

Los enlaces explican cómo hacer comentarios y qué es un hastag para aquellas personas que no estén muy familiarizadas. Prefiero "pecar" de daros una información que ya sabéis a que no os unáis a la fiesta.

Finalmente, una sugerencia que dejo en vuestras manos es compartir esta acción. Enlazadlo donde  queráis (Facebook,...) crea un link en tu blog (antes de copiar-pegar), imprímelo y pégalo en la pizarra de tu cole o en el bar, explícaselo a tu vecino, etc. 

Kat tiene miles de fans de todas partes y no creo que lleguemos a tantos, pero sí me gustaría llegar a aquéllos que verdaderamente tengan ganas de celebrar este día.

My goal may seem a bit silly but I am so happy of every step I take. We must not forget that small changes start the big ones!

News of the Blog

It's been a while since last time I was writting a proper post about the blog and since then, there are few changes and news that I'd love to share with all of you.
Basically, experimenting is how you learn and grow up.

Facebook page disappears in order to manage better my time and focus only in what matters: the blog

Social media is there to stay. It's useful to connect with your friends, meet new people and receive news from your fave celebs and brands but, do you really need to be there to exist as a blog?
I've learnt that the answer is: if you can't properly mantain a Facebook group, you'd better shut doors down and focus on your proper platform. I'm really sorry for those 80 people who were interested in, but why losing energy in projects that doesn't work?

I'm updating as fast as I can for you to enjoy Galleries in Photobucket. The blog is full of pictures and I know they are appreciated. However, I felt there has to be a place for you to browse easily.


This week Kat answered one of my questions and I've realised how powerful Twitter can be. I had to read it twice because I simply couldn't believe what I was reading on the screen: Kat tweet me back?
In fact I tweet'd her very few times and major times wasn't about me but about Eve. So, from this time I'm gonna be bolder and think better questions!
I have a commitment with every fan that encouraged me to keep this site alive and despite of working, I enjoy building this place.

I hope one day people use this blog for researching about Kat.
